Thanks for sharing Emilee's story! I read this book for an assignment of an eating disorders courses during my graduate school studies. This is a very well-written book. I am studying nutrition and am hoping to be a registered dietitian after graduation. This book definitely helped me grow as a health care professional. I realized that just as other diseases, eating disorders impact the whole family. The patients themselves may feel shameful, helpless, and depressed, and the patients’ family are also suffering because of the pain they see from their loved ones. It’s really a tough time for both the patients and their family. Therefore, as a health care professional, I learned that “understanding, connection, and compassion are essential elements of healing which serve to foster hope and enhance the quality of life for anyone going through a difficult time, and this maxim holds true for eating disorders.” Moreover, I learned that eating disorders affect individuals biologically, psychologically, and socially. Patients often feel disconnected from themselves, people around them, and society. They feel judged by a society that does not understand their disease, and they feel intense shame for having the disease. Thus, it is important to show empathy to these patients and their family. During counseling, be kind and patient, and remind them I care about them, and encourage them to talk about their feelings. I was moved as the doctor said Emilee was helping them learn how to better care for someone with such a severe eating disorder. I realized that sometimes just a kind word or facial expression would make the patients and their families feel much better.Overall, this book let me learn deeper about individuals who suffer from eating disorders. I recommend it to all healthcare providers because eating disorders are affecting more and more people. Linda and John, thanks for sharing with us the story of Emilee!

Fabulous Read A beautiful written book. I appreciate Jack and Linda so much. I had an opportunity to meet them via a graduate course I took at Columbia University, and they are such fabulous humans and storytellers. This said, I would recommend this book be read by more folks who work in the mental health and medical field. This is coming from someone who works as a therapist.

If you haven't lived with Anorexia Nervosa you don't understand it. This book was written by Emilee's parents after her death caused by anorexia nervosa, which is a mental disease. Her parents swore their daughter wouldn't die on their watch, which they had to admit they had no control over. Emilee's story explains that though she was a degreed pharmacist and got married, the disease took her life at 35. The story is written in segments by the mother and the father. They tell their thoughts, what they learned, the lack of knowledge in the medical field about this disease, and the ultimate outcome. If you want to understand this disease, PLEASE read this book, and pray it never infects your family.

Grabs Your Heart and Never Let’s Go! This book provides an authentic, heart-wrenchingly real picture of the terrible toll an eating disorder takes on the sufferer and their family. The ignorance in the medical and insurance communities is keenly apparent and the need for more and better education to help both children AND adults suffering with such a pervasive and lethal mental illness. Linda and Jack are out to change the world of eating disorders and this book is a magnificent first step!

Bringing Attention To Adult Eating Disorders & Loss This book illuminates the tremendous challenges faced when trying to access treatment for an adult with an eating disorder and co-occurring issues. While based in the U.S., common themes of stigma, shame, lack of treatment access, and cost are relatable. Linda and Jack heartbreakingly share the enormous impact on their family only to be left with little support after losing their daughter. If you have lost someone to an eating disorder, while painful, this book will validate your experience and remind you, you are absolutely not alone. For the medical, therapeutic, research professionals, this is a must-read.

This story grabbed my heart The story of Emilee needed to be told and must be read. Mental health, anorexia, and substance use are so poorly understood. This personal, tender story of dear Emilee makes the constant ups and downs of supporting a child through a journey of struggle very real. Thank you to the authors for sharing this poignant story with the world - it's important!

Incredible After reading the book on Kindle, I decided to order the audible version to hear the story narrated by Linda and Jack. Just as I read the book front to cover without putting it down, I listened to the entire audio book in a day. The love and support warmed my heart; the Mazur family endured so much but never gave up on their daughter. Publishing this book and telling Emilee's story is the ultimate act of courage and advocacy. As someone who has had a very similar journey to Emilee, my heart ached for her struggle. Several times I found myself in tears in relation to both her struggle and hearing things from the perspective of her parents. This book has the power to change many lives; it not only provides a sense of connection for people who suffer from eating disorders and the families/loved ones who walk the journey alongside of them, but also, has the potential to impact a future generation of medical providers whose words and actions play a pivotal role. There are not enough positive words to describe this book- both in terms of content and impact.

Heartfelt and sincere The Mazurs’ dedication to their daughter, who suffered from Anorexia Nervosa, is so deeply touching and heartfelt. Their testimonies of the numerous hospitalizations that Emilee underwent and constant inhibitions on behalf of insurance companies reveal how defective and even damaging the healthcare system can be for individuals with AN and other psychiatric disorders.
